Zalgo Text Generator

Make Zalgo text by adding Unicode combining marks above, below and through your letters. Compare three intensity levels and regenerate a result for short glitch, creepy or cursed-text effects that remain copyable characters.

Choose the intensity of your glitch text

Low: start with a light distortion

Low intensity adds a smaller selection of marks above and below eligible character groups. Start here when the original word should remain recognizable. The exact marks are generated from the current seed, so some letters may receive fewer marks than others.

Medium: compare a more visible effect

Medium can add more marks above and below, plus marks through letters. Use a short sample to check line spacing and readability in the receiving app before applying the effect to a longer phrase.

High: a denser decorative result

High allows more marks and can create a more crowded appearance. It also uses the output budget faster. Marks may extend outside the apparent height of a letter, so a dense result can be clipped by the destination’s line layout.

Regenerate from the unchanged source

Regenerate changes the pattern of marks using your original input. Switching intensity or regenerating does not replace the source with the distorted output. Character groups that already contain combining marks are left alone instead of repeatedly accumulating more marks.

How to generate and copy Zalgo text

  1. 1

Enter a short ordinary word or phrase. Keep the source rather than pasting a distorted result back into the input.

  2. 2

Compare Low, Medium and High, then use Regenerate to try another pattern at the selected intensity.

  3. 3

Copy the output and check the target field for clipped marks, readability and length restrictions.

Zalgo text for short visual effects

A creepy heading for an informal post

Try a short word such as Ghost at medium intensity, then compare a lighter version. Keep the rest of the message plain so the heading remains an accent. Inspect the target app for cropped marks before posting.

Ghost → G̶͙̣̱̀͋ḧ̢́͆̆ô͈st̷ͧ̑

A playful corrupted-text message

Distort a brief optional phrase in a conversation where the effect makes sense. Avoid filling a long message with marks: the appearance can obscure the words and take up much more character space than expected.

Hello → H̶͙̣̱̀͋ë̢́͆̆l͈̂lo̷ͧ̑

A fictional error label

Use a compact label for a story, game discussion or mock interface. This is a visual text effect and does not indicate a real software error. For a video glitch animation or image effect, use a media editor instead.

Error → È̶͙̣̱͋r̢̈́͆̆r͈̂or̷ͧ̑

A display-name experiment

Test a short name at low intensity in the actual field before saving. Some fields reject combining marks or count them separately. If it fails, use ordinary characters or another text style; the generator cannot bypass validation.

Nova → Ǹ̶͙̣̱͋ö̢́͆̆v͈̂a

Cursed and corrupted text: common questions

What are Zalgo, glitch and cursed text?

In this tool those names describe text decorated with combining marks. The base letters remain present, with extra characters drawn around them. A scary text generator of this kind produces text, not an animated glitch, a corrupted file or a font download.

Why can Zalgo look different after copying?

A destination’s fonts and line spacing affect where the marks appear. Some fields clip tall marks or limit combining characters. Try lower intensity and a shorter phrase in the actual field rather than relying only on the preview here.

Why is the character count much larger than the visible word?

Each combining mark contributes to the output’s Unicode code-point count even when it appears attached to one letter. Platform limits can use different counting rules. A short visible nickname can therefore exceed a field’s allowed length.

What does Regenerate change?

It changes the mark pattern while keeping your source and intensity. It does not invent new words or progressively add more marks to the previous output. Use it to compare alternatives, then copy the one you prefer.

Why does already decorated or accented input change less?

The converter skips adding marks to a character group that already contains a combining mark. This limits repeated stacking, but it is not a clean-up function. Start with plain source text if you want a fresh pattern.

Can I remove Zalgo marks or recover the original here?

This page does not include a remove-marks mode. Keep the plain source from the input rather than treating the decorated output as your only copy. Removing combining marks indiscriminately can also remove meaningful accents from some writing systems.

What are the input and output limits?

The full source is preserved, but only its first 2,000 Unicode code points are processed. Output stops before exceeding 20,000 code points and shows a notice if truncated. Copy uses the displayed output, so lower the intensity or shorten the source when you need the entire phrase.

Is the tool free and private?

Yes. It requires no account and performs the conversion in your browser rather than sending the input to a conversion server. Keep a separate copy of important source text: the shared input is temporary and clears when you clear it, reload or close the tab.
